Association “Food Bank in Cracow” operates with support of various social groups and local authorities since July 1997.
Food Bank in Cracow is non- profit, non governmental organization. We don’t keep economical activity.
Our principal goal is reduction of areas of starvation and undernourishment in our city and region and struggle against food waste.
Regular gaining of food from various sources - first of all food that can soon be spoiled or damaged is nature of our activity. Gained food before expiration of its usfulness term is passed on to local charity organizations that struggle against starvation and undernourishment.
Association „Food Bank in Cracow” is a team skilled employees and volunteers , which based on professional logistics is able to gain from producers and distributors, and then distribute through local charity organizations huge non-trade portions of food.
Gained food thanks to several dozens of charity organizations is passed on to over ten thousands of people in need each month.
Scale of undernourishment is hard to estimate. No one leads research or statistics that would let estimate scale of this occurence. Only in Cracow there are few dozens of public and non-governmental orgaznizations, that are giving meals starving people. Some of this organizations gain food on their own, which takes much of their time and energy, often they also suffer from lack of proper warehouse and they can’t manage huge parts of food. Food Bank in Cracow was founded with intention of helping in such cases.
There are 14 food banks in Poland united in Polish Federation of Food Banks with seat in Warsaw. We belong also to European Federation of Food Banks.
